Rural women play a decisive role in agricultural activities in paddy farms. Working in paddy fields is inherently harmful. Women are always exposed to various injuries and complications resulting from prolonged existence in the paddy fields, which are considered threats to health. However, due to their weak financial strength they work in these conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the occupational injuries related to working in paddy fields among women and their intention to protect themselves against these injuries. Using the protection motivation theory (PMT) and selecting a sample of 180 paddy laborer women, this study investigated the intention to protect themselves against occupational injuries among women workers in paddy fields in Shaft County, Guilan Province. The data collection instrument was a questionnaire, the validity and reliability of which were confirmed. The data were analyzed using SPSS26 and Smart PLS3 software. The results showed that the women experienced relatively high occupational injuries due to work in paddy fields (mean=3.45±0.90). However, their coping behaviors were not at the desirable levels (mean=3.27±0.79). The variables of perceived vulnerability (4.2±0.52), perceived severity (3.94±0.63), response effectiveness (3.71±0.71), response costs (2.32±0.68), and self-efficacy (3.78±0.3) showed significant relationships with protection intention (3.81±0.69) and explained a total of 64% of the variability in the intention of women to perform protective behaviors. By modifying women's perception of harmful factors and improving their understanding of protective behaviors related to complications from working in paddy fields and employing appropriate protective behaviors, their occupational injuries can be reduced.
